It is very important to familiarize yourself with the terms that are used at the craps table. Not knowing these terms can prove to be intimidating, not to mention that you will not understand what is going on.
Any Craps - You are placing a bet on one roll of the dice and you are betting that the numbers 2, 3 or 12, also known as Craps, will come up. The payout ratio is 7-to-1.
Any Seven -You are placing a bet on one roll of the dice and you are betting that any dice combination that adds up to a 7 will come up.
Bankroll -The amount of money the player wants to use gambling.
Barred Number - The number 2 or 12 can be a barred number. This means that the Don't Pass or the Don't Come bets will tie when a barred number will be rolled out.
Bet Numbers Across - You are placing a bet on all the "place numbers". The place numbers are either 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.
Big Six or Big Eight -You are betting that either a 6 or an 8 will roll out before a 7. The payout for this type of bet is even money.
Box Point -This refers to the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 that the shooter rolls out.
Boxman -The casino employee that supervises the craps table.
Buy Bet -You are making a "place bet" at "true odds", which is preferable to "place odds".
Chop -The win or lose action of the dice.
Come Bet -This is similar to the Pass line bet. The only difference is that now we know the shooter's point.
Come-out Roll -When the dice are first cast. The shooter must first place a Pass line or Don't Pass line bet.
Craps - A casino game that uses dice. / When the shooter gets a 2, 3 or 12 on his come-out roll.
Don't Come - This bet is similar to the Don't Pass bet. You can place a Don't come bet only after the shooter's point has been established.
Don't Pass - If the come-out roll is a 2, 3, or 12 (called "craps") the pass line loses and the Don't Pass line wins or ties. The Don't Pass bet will be a tie when the come-out roll is a 12.
Flat Bets - The player gambles the same amount for every roll. Regardless if he wins or loses, he always bets the same amount of money on every roll.
Free Odds -You have to opportunity of placing a true odds bet but only on a Pass or Come bet.
Front Line - A Pass Line is also known as a Front Line.
Full Odds - The right odds.
High / Low - You are placing a bet on one roll of the dice and you are betting that either 2 or 12 will come up. The payout ratio is 30-to-1.
Horn Bet - You are placing a bet on 2, 3 or 12, also known as Craps numbers, and on 11.
Hot Hand - Consecutive winning rolls.
House - The casino.
Inside Bets - You are placing a bet on 5, 6, 8 and 9.
Lay Bet - You are betting that the shooter will roll a 7 before the number is bet on.
Lay Odds - This is an extra bet. It gives the Don't Pass and Don't Come bettors the chance to give true odds on their bets.
Layout - The craps table and how everything is a arranged on it.
Natural - If the shooter rolls a 7 or an 11 on his come-out roll then he has a "natural".
Odds Bet - This is an extra bet. Only those that have placed Pass Lines, Come, Don�?t Come, and Don't Pass bets can make such a bet. You are betting that the shooter will roll his point number.
Off - This indicates that bets are working.
On - This indicates that bets are not working.
Outside Bets - You are placing a bet on 4, 5, 9 and 10.
Pass - The players that have bet on the Pass Line have won.
Pass Line Bet - You are betting that the shooter will roll out a 7 or an 11 on his come-out roll. You are betting that the shooter will roll out his point number before a 7.
Percentage - The fees charged by the casino.
Place Bets - On the table layout you will see several boxes with the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 written on them. You are placing a bet on any of these numbers to be rolled out before a 7.
Point Number - Any number that is rolled out in the come-out roll and that is different from 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12.
Roll - The action of throwing the dice.
Seven Out - If the point number has been established and the shooter rolls a 7 before the point number he loses his bet.
Shooter - The player that has been chosen to throw the dice.
Stick - An instrument used by the stickman to push and pull the dice.
Stickman - The dealer of the craps table. He usually stands in the middle of the table and pushes or pulls the dice with a device called a stick.
Table Limits - The minimum and the maximum amount of money that you can bet at the craps table.
Toss/Roll - The action of throwing the dice.
Wrong Bettor - A player at the craps table that has bet against the shooter. He will win if the shooter's roll will result in a loss for him.
