The Craps Table Layout De-Mystified

Besides the craps rules, beginners should also pay special attention to the craps table layout. Take a look at the table layout presented below. Familiarize yourself with it because on this layout you will be placing your bets. There are several places on the layout where you can place a bet. Some look more attractive than others, but you should not rush in. You should know that some bets are more profitable while other bets you should avoid.



At a first glance you will notice that some bets are better highlighted than others. Just because they are written in big red letters does not mean that they offer better odds or that those bets are better than other bets.

On the left you will notice the "Pass Line" and the "Don't Pass Bar". This is where you will place your first bet. If you place a pass line bet then you are playing "with the dice". If the shooter will win, you will also win. But if you place a don't pass bet then you are betting against the shooter. The shooter and the other players that have placed pass line bets may not look to kindly at you for placing such a bet.

Written in big red letters is the "Come" bet area. You will be able to place a bet there only after the come-out roll.

Also written in big red letters, in the lower left part of the table is the "Big 6 and 8" betting area. Beginner players are advised to avoid such bets. In the upper left part of the table you will notice the "Don't Come Bar". Just as the "Don't Pass Bar" this is also a bet against the dice. It is the opposite of the Come bet.

You will find the Point above the Come bet area. You will no doubt notice that 6 and 9 are written in letters, not numbers. The reason for this is to avoid any confusion. You will always know if that is a 6 or a 9 regardless on which side of the table you are standing.
