Choosing an open spot at a casino craps table and finding the best casino craps spot is just matter of preference. The craps table position has no strategic importance no matter what those craps myths say. For example I prefer the craps table position that is on the end of the table, right next to the dealer. There I won’t worry about obnoxious players on both sides of me.
There is also the craps table spot next to the stickman but I usually avoid this one because I always feel to stay in his way reaching for the dice or handling the stick. Once, a friend of mine sitting in that craps table spot got hit with the stick in his head. Of course the stickman apologized politely but still my friend felt stupid and got a bump on his head.
If you cannot choose as there is a crowded table, or you want to move because of a drunk or obnoxious player next to you just wait and look for a player “coloring up” as for sure he will soon leave and announce the dealer that you wish to take his craps table position. The dealer will hold that spot for you and in case a new player goes for that craps table spot be sure that the dealer will inform him that the place is already taken, giving him your spot. Note: when you move, don’t forget to take your chips with you.
I know from personal experience that players next to you can affect your playing experience as you can get stuck next to a chain-smoker, or a fat player with wicked body odor or it may be a funny cheering guy. This depends on your luck or patience to choose a craps table position and I repeat it has nothing to do with playing strategy.
