The Mystery from the Craps Table

Apr 23rd 2007
I am sure that a craps table might seem intimidating and confusing at first sight. Feel free to surf through the entire site if you haven't done it already as it is the first step in becoming a craps master.

Stay relaxed as everything will seem easier once you will start reading my articles. The craps table will no longer be a mystery for you. Your gambling experiences will be something to remember if you just relax and read these pages. The fear which every new person that plays a craps game for the first time experiences will be gone if you read all the pages.

I am sure that you know how to recognize a craps table while entering in a casino: it is the table with the biggest crowd. If there aren't too many persons inside then you should go to the green table which has at least four casino workers around it. The felt on each craps table is printed for the bets to be placed.

The Hardways and One Roll bets can be placed in the center of the table and in each end of it other types of bets. You cans eat at any of the two ends as it has the same bets so you won't miss a thing. The color of the felt differs it can be dark blue, purple or green the color that you will find in most casinos.

In the picture below you can see an image from the above of the table just to give you an idea on what you should be expecting. You can see in the picture that it is pretty crowded even if you will never see such an empty table. This is what each worker does: the Box person is at the middle of the table with that stack of chips in front of him.

He is like the King of the table as his job is to settle arguments, count the money and to keep watch over all the proceedings. He will also monitor the dealers to be sure that they run everything correctly. An extra Box person can be seen at the table for security in case the table is really crowded.

In the picture you can see only three dealers, the two ones mentioned and the Stick person. In a real casino there are forth of them, one of them being in a brake as they keep on rotating around the dealer position. This is to be sure that they aren't too tired and they won't make any mistakes. The two dealers facing the players are "on base" which means they keep track of the bets and pay or take the money depending on the roll of the dice. Their job is to place the bets and mark the point with the puck.

The last worker, the Stick person is the guy with the stick as I am sure you figured that out already. He is also called a mop or whip. After a roll it is his job to take the dice with the stick and to give them back to the player. He sometimes places bets as well. His main job is to "talk up" the dice, this way increasing the excitement level surrounding the craps table.

A guy which is in a high roll may be mesmerized by the talking the Stick person's does but you should always be careful and don't pay to much attention to it as he is only doing his job which is to increase the casino's profits.
