Free Odds on Craps
Apr 24th 2007
The free odds are the best you can find. They are not similar to any other bets by the fact that they are not marked anywhere on the table. You use the free odds to back up any bets that you have previously made. The only bets that you are allowed to back with free odds are: the come bets pass line bets, come bets, don't pass and don't come bets.
The odds are against you just like at any other casino bet that meaning that they possess a negative expectation. The good thing is that you get paid back as a fair bet from the portion of the bet that was placed as free odds. This happens when you back the bets with free odds. The odds portion of the bet offers the house edge almost 0 percent.
An example on how you can do this: if you want your pass line bet to be backed then you place a multiple of your original bet behind your pass line bet which is already on the table. It is required for a point to be set before you can place a free odds bet. A point is required to be set before you can place free odds on a come bet as well.
The pass line bet, the don't pass bet, and both the come and don't come bets are the bets that you can place free odds on and this is to be remembered. You can place anywhere from two to five times your original wager in odds at almost any casino. If the odd limit is five times the original bet (5X) and your pass line bet is 5$ you can place a total of 25$ in free odds behind your bet.
The difference is that a pass line bet with odds has a house edge of 0.47% instead of a 1.45% that a normally pass line bet alone would have. You won't get short changed from the casino in case of a win unlike the other bets and this is where the house edge's difference comes from. Do not forget to take your odds as it will cost you money.
