Be the best at Craps - Part I

Apr 18th 2007
The player should be aware of every bet on the table and think about when he could or should put money down on it. Making particular bets or particular combinations of bets, usually is a good strategy in craps.

To orient ourselves, we should take a look at the craps table and at the good bets on it, to understand how and why to make them. We can start with the Hershey bar of craps, the pass line bet.

The Pass line bet pays even money and is one of the best bets on the table. It has a house edge of 1.42% and compared to the rest of the gambling games in the casino, this is a good number, but it can get better.

The Free odds bet is a fair bet and the house edge on it is exactly zero. Before you can make the free odds bet you need to make a negative expectation bet and the Pass line bet is one of this bets that you can back it with Free odds. After a point has been set you can place an additional bet ( free odds) behind your original Pass line bet. Almost everyone use this craps betting strategy.

Another craps betting strategy is the Come bet, which is an independent bet and it has nothing to do with the Pass line bet and the cycle of play. You make this bet by placing the bet on the "Come" box. The payoffs for Come bets are the same as for Pass bets.

The next roll that gets thrown will win the come bet if it's 7 or 11, and lose outright if it's 2, or 3. The little difference is, if a 12 is rolled, the come bet is a push (it would be a loss for a pass line bet). If anything else is rolled, the number becomes your personal 'come point'. To signify this the dealer will move your bet to the appropriate numbered square on the table (the same place they put the puck to signify what the session point is). When this happens it is possible to place odds bets on the points of your own Come bet by handing the bet to a dealer and stating that you want "odds on my ". Unless you specify otherwise, odds bets on Come are declared "not working" on a come out roll after a point is made.
